Originally, an industry-centric affair, the 7th Annual International Chardonnay Symposium focuses on developing a deeper appreciation of one of the world’s noble grapes with in-depth, immersions in vineyard-to-glass seminars, grand tastings, educational panels, winemaker luncheons & dinners, winery & vineyard tours, and winery tastings. This year, the event coordinators are planning on having a greater presence of French Chardonnays and their producers in both seminars and tastings, in addition to cheese and food pairing classes.

Being seduced by A Sicilian… Recently, I have been having this great adventure exploring Sicilian wines - again, I must emphasize. As a child, I grew up drinking only Italian wines. If you are Italian, this is not uncommon to have a small glass of wine poured for you at lunch or dinner. My family drank predominantly northern varietals because my maternal grandfather was a winemaker from that region. My father, on he other hand, was a Sicilian, and made no excuses for it. When I was with him, we ate and drank, the foods and wines from or most similar, to his region. As one of my Sicilian friends says about his countrymen, unapologetically “we are different.” D’accordo, amico mio. You are very much so a breed of your own.

Pismo Beach Starts Amgen Stage 5

The City of Pismo Beach hosts the 9th Annual Amgen Tour of California Stage 5 Start presented by Breakaway from Cancer on Thursday, May 15, 2014. The teams arrive to the Pismo Beach Pier at 10:15 and the race begins promptly at 11:45 am. Spectators need to arrive early to enjoy the festivities, and to find a spot to watch the participating cyclists embark on their 107-mile trek to Santa Barbara.
