Jim Clendenen & Central Coast Wine Classic

Avila Beach Golf Resort will host the Central Coast Wine Classic from July 7 – 10. This event raises money to fund grants supporting  the healing arts, studio arts and performing arts for non-profit organizations from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties; even the discriminating The Wine Spectator sponsors it.  Since 2004, it has funded grants for 76 non-profit organizations totaling $1,615,943.00.

It takes many people that put a great deal into making this event one of the most unique and amazing experiences for both the serious wine connoiseur and the fine food and wine lover. One of those individuals is Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat.

Jim Clendenen is possibly the most visible winemaker in the Central Coast; and certainly one of the most vocal and he has been a long-time supporter of the Central Coast Wine Classic.  What inspires him to be as generous and involved with this event is partly historical; he’s been involved with Director Archie McLaren on this for more than 25 years.  In that time, they have shared a respect, a desire to promote the region and to support the list of charitable beneficiaries; all the while supporting the local wine, culinary and hospitality industries. Jim clearly enjoys his relationship with the event and calls it fraternal and socially responsible.  His primary motivation for doing this, he says, is “convivial, fraternal, educational.”  He’s a good example of the impact a highly respected, successful, socially responsible winemaker can have on the local region.

This year the foundation wants to widen the reach of the Central Coast Wine Classic 2011.
